Whether you use Voices.com as a job source or not, it is worthwhile to check out their Voice Over Experts podcast. This episode has Marc Cashman discussing building your voiceover “house;” that is, your vocal base from which all the other things you can do with your voice come from.
Wish I had caught this yesterday: Don Pardo the legendary voice of Saturday Night Live, turned 93 yesterday. Mental_Floss has a great article with clips of Don Pardo moments, and some really interesting information. Mr. Pardo was the first person at NBC to announce the shooting of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Amazing stuff.
As with any job that asks for a sample of your work before you get the gig, “no” is part of the process. Even more difficult int he voiceover industry, there usually isn’t an explicit “no,” just a gaping silence. You have to get used to it, and remember it’s not about YOU. Silvie Pamphile lays it out.
